If you're looking for an easy Thanksgiving dessert that tastes good then you're in the right place! I make this apple crisp all the time during the fall season, and everyone I make it for loves it.
It's so yummy and quick to make. The canned apple pie filling is my favourite part because you don't have to spend any time peeling and slicing the apples (the worst!)
Ingredients
- Canned Apple Pie Filling
- All Purpose Flour
- Oats
- Brown Sugar
- Spices (cinnamon, nutmeg)
- Salt
- Butter
See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 - Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Step 2 - Make the filling: To a 9x13 baking dish, combine and mix the canned apple filling, cinnamon and nutmeg together.

Step 3 - Make the topping: In a mixing bowl, combine and mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter and use your hands to form a crumbly texture (you can also use a pastry cutter if you have one).

Step 4 - Bake: Evenly sprinkle the topping over the pie filling and bake the apple crisp for 40-45 minutes uncovered on the middle rack until golden brown and crispy.

Storage and Leftovers
Store leftovers covered tightly with plastic wrap or tin foil (once room temperature) in the fridge for up to one week.
Helpful Tips
- Take your time cutting the butter into the topping ingredients to ensure the texture is crumbly and has enough butter to coat everything so it gets crispy in the oven and not dry.
Frequently Asked Questions
If it's dry, it likely needs more butter cut into it.
This can happen if there isn't enough of a thickening agent, such as cornstarch. Most canned apple pie fillings include cornstarch as an ingredient, so you shouldn't have to worry. However, feel free to add a tablespoon to the filling if you'd like.
