This is one of my favourite go-to desserts when I have last-minute plans and need to make a dessert! It's so quick to make with minimal ingredients (boxed cake mix and canned fruit are seriously the way to go!) and always a hit at any gathering I bring it to!
I always serve it with French vanilla ice cream, and it's...chef's kiss! The blueberry filling is so flavourful, and the warm and gooey texture is incredibly yummy!

See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
Assemble the cobbler: Spread the canned blueberry pie filling in the baking dish, then evenly sprinkle on the cake mix, and then evenly distribute the slices of butter on top.
Bake: Bake the cobbler uncovered on the middle rack for 40-50 minutes until the cake mix has dissolved and the top is golden brown. Let the cobbler rest for 5-10 minutes and then serve with vanilla ice cream, as desired.
Storage and Leftovers
Store any leftover cobbler covered tightly with plastic wrap or tin foil (once cooled) in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Helpful Tips
- Let the cobbler rest after baking so it has time to settle and thicken so you don't end up with a runny cobbler!
- Greasing your baking dish will help avoid any sticking from the blueberries.
- Evenly distribute the butter slices over the cake mix powder to ensure all the powder gets absorbed by the melted butter as it bakes.
Frequently Asked Questions
It may be runny if it didn't rest after baking because it needs time to settle and thicken.
Canned blueberry pie filling typically has cornstarch in it (check the ingredient label to make sure), and if not, mix the filling with a tablespoon of cornstarch to ensure the filling is thick once its baked. Also give the cobbler some time to rest after baking.
This will happen if the butter isn't evenly distributed over the cake mix. As it bakes, the butter will melt and absorb and cook the cake mix, so just be sure there is enough butter to cover the top of the cobbler.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (French vanilla is my favourite!). It also pairs great with a hot cup of tea or coffee. You also can't go wrong with some whipped cream either!
