Why you'll love this recipe
- Easy: You only need four ingredients to make them!
- Quick: These will be ready in just one simple step and in less than 10 minutes!
- Bite Size: Everyone loves bite-size snacks, especially when you're snacking in front of a crowd! People love the size of these and how easy they are to handle.
Recipe Ingredients
- Cherry Tomatoes: the cherry tomatoes add a bright and fresh flavour and taste extra delicious when they're in season in the summer and fall! I also love how cute they look on the toothpicks lol!
- Fresh Basil: the basil adds fresh flavour and a pretty pop of colour!
- Mozzarella Balls: this recipe uses boccaccini mozzarella balls, but any cheese works! I've made these with cubed cheddar, mozzarella, and gouda before too!
- Prosciutto: the prosciutto is incredibly delicious and adds a salty component that compliments the other ingredients on the skewers!
- Salt: a little salt goes a long way in enhancing the overall flavour of the skewers,
- Balsamic Vinegar (Optional): sometimes I like to drizzle some balsamic glaze over the skewers for aesthetics and a pop of flavour.
See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.
Alternative Ingredients
One of the things I love most about cheese and meat skewers is how creative you can be with them! Oftentimes, you already have plenty of ingredients in the fridge and can whip these up quickly and end up with a different version of skewer that always taste delicious!
- Meats: Consider adding more meat to the skewers or swapping the prosciutto with something else! I've made these with salami before (check out my salami caprese skewers), and they would also taste delicious with spicy salami, turkey, ham, etc.!
- Cheeses: Add more cheese like cheddar, gouda, etc. or substitute the boccacini balls with them!
- Olives: These skewers would taste delicious with the addition of green or black olives. Some of my favourites to add are blue cheese filled green olives and kalamata olives!
- Pickles: Some sweet or garlic flavoured baby pickles would also go great on these skewers!
Instructions
- Assemble: Thread a tomato, basil leaf, mozzarella ball, and half a slice of prosciutto onto a toothpick and garnish with flakey salt. Repeat these steps for each toothpick and drizzle with optional balsamic vinegar.
