I don't know about you, but when I'm hosting, I love making quick and easy appetizers that everyone's gonna love! What I love most about these is that they're a finger food that's easy for anyone to grab, and they're bite-sized (they also look and taste incredible)!

If you like caprese skewers, then you should also try these prosciutto caprese skewers and these salami caprese skewers too!

Some other caprese-inspired recipes you may enjoy is this caprese pasta salad, caprese crostini with glaze, and caprese butter board!

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • Quick and Easy: A foolproof recipe that anyone can make with just four simple ingredients!
    • Perfect for Sharing: A crowd-pleasing finger food for any occasion, like potlucks, dinner parties, etc!
    • Delicious: Everyone will be going for seconds on these!

    Ingredients

    • Cheese Tortellini (fresh or frozen)
    • Cherry Tomatoes (grape tomatoes will also work)
    • Fresh Basil Leaves
    • Bocconcini Mozzarella Balls/Pearls (cubed mozzarella cheese also works)
    • Balsamic Glaze (this is optional, and you can either use store-bought or make a simple balsamic glaze from scratch!)

See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.

Ingredients to make the tortellini caprese skewers including cheese tortellini, cherry tomatoes, bocconcini balls, and basil on a table.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 - Boil the pasta: Cook the tortellini according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse the noodles with cold water until they are cold.

Step 2 - Assemble the skewers: Thread a piece of tortellini, a tomato, a basil leaf, and a bocconcini ball onto a toothpick and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Repeat these steps for each toothpick and drizzle with balsamic glaze (optional).

    Storage and Leftovers

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

    Helpful Tips

    • Avoid overcooking the tortellini otherwise it may be mushy and difficult to thread onto a toothpick.
    • Rinsing the tortellini with cold water until the noodles are cold to the touch is an important step to prevent them from overcooking.
    • Consider patting the ingredients dry with a paper towel if they're wet to avoid a messy presentation once you plate the skewers.
    • If the tortellini noodles start sticking to each other, drizzle them with olive oil to prevent sticking.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Should the tortellini be served hot or cold?

Cold! Be sure to rinse the tortellini with cold water as you strain it. This will prevent it from overcooking and becoming mushy.

    How to serve caprese skewers?

Some flaky salt and a drizzle of balsamic glaze will really elevate the taste of these skewers!
