If you like banana bread then you'll love this banana dessert! It's similar but much more decadent. It's sweeter and has a crispy buttery topping with a moist cakey centre. A scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side makes this an A+ dessert.

I like making in the fall and winter, when it's cold outside and I'm craving a warm and cozy treat after dinner.

    Ingredients

    • Bananas
    • Pecans (nuts are optional. Walnuts are also a great substitution)
    • Milk (evaporated milk also tastes delicious)
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Box of Yellow Cake Mix
    • Cinnamon
    • Brown Sugar
    • Butter

See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 - Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 2 - Assemble: Add the bananas to the baking dish and smash with a fork until mushy. Sprinkle with pecans, slowly pour in the milk and vanilla extract, sprinkle the cake mix over the top, and then evenly distribute the slices of butter on top.

    Notes

This cake is best served warm, not hot!

Nuts are totally optional and the cake tastes great with or without. For more flavour, consider roasting the nuts before adding them to the cake.

A quick hack is to use a cinnamon cake flavoured box cake mix if your grocery store has it available. If you use that, you can skip the yellow cake mix and cinnamon sugar mixture. Truthfully though, the cinnamon sugar mixture might be the best part! Tastes just like a cinnamon roll...
