Growing up, my mom always roasted veggies with garlic and parmesan. It made them taste so much better, and my sisters and I never complained. We may have even looked forward to getting some on our plates.

That's why I started making my veggies with garlic and parmesan, and you'll notice I have plenty on Cup of Flour like this garlic parmesan brussels sprout and broccoli recipe and roasted garlic parmesan baby carrots recipe!

I love making this asparagus recipe as a side dish with any dinner recipe! I'll make them with quick chicken dinners during the week or sometimes with a fancier steak dinner on the weekend!

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • Easy: All you need is a few basic ingredients to make this delicious side dish.
    • Quick: This recipe takes less than 20 minutes to make!
    • Delicious: Veggies don't have to be boring, and this asparagus recipe will prove that to you with its incredibly tasty flavour.

The best part about this recipe is that it not only delivers on taste but is also made with just a few simple ingredients. Cup of Flour really helps people make cooking approachable by choosing to only use basic ingredients in all our recipes to ensure you can confidently find the ingredients at any grocery store near you. Recipe Ingredients

    • FRESH ASPARAGUS: when you're at the grocery store, look for firm asparagus that's green in colour. If they're flimsy, they're no good!
    • OLIVE OIL: this helps the asparagus roast.
    • SALT & PEPPER: this helps enhance the overall flavour of the dish.
    • GARLIC POWDER: garlic adds a ton of flavour and compliments the parmesan.
    • PARMESAN CHEESE: grated parmesan adds saltiness, cheesiness, and a tangy flavour that tastes delicious with asparagus.

See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Prepare: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a baking dish.
    2. Assemble: Add the asparagus to the baking dish, drizzle with the olive oil, sprinkle with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan cheese.
    3. Bake: Roast the asparagus for 15-20 minutes (depending on how thin or thick the asparagus is).

    Helpful Tips

    • Trim the asparagus ends. You shouldn't eat the ends of asparagus because they are quite tough and woody. To remove them, just snap the asparagus near the end, and it will break where it's meant to.
    • Cook with high heat. The reason we're cooking at 400 degrees Fahrenheit is because we want the oven to be hot! Asparagus is best cooked for a shorter period of time at a high heat so they roast to a crispy perfection, otherwise if they're overcooked they'll become mushy.
    • Be aware of asparagus shapes and sizes. Asparagus comes in different thickness levels - some are thicker and some are thinner. This recipe uses a thicker asparagus so if yours are thin, you may need to cook them for a few minutes less.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Should I peel asparagus?

No, you do not need to peel asparagus.

How can I tell if asparagus is fresh?

If it's firm to the touch and has closed tips it's usually fresh, whereas if its lim it's probably bad.

    Serving Suggestions

This asparagus recipe tastes great with chicken and steak dinners, and also complements a second side dish like roasted baby yellow potatoes, creamy scalloped potatoes, crispy brussel sprouts with bacon or some roasted maple glazed carrots very well too!
