If you like iced cinnamon rolls, then you're going to love this dessert. It's so much easier to make than cinnamon rolls with short-cut ingredients and way less time!
My boyfriend loves this cake way more than cinnamon rolls because the texture is way more consistent. It's not just ooey gooey in the middle, it's ooey gooey in every bite! That's the best part of a cinnamon roll don't you think? We do!
Ingredients
- Canned Cinnamon Rolls (I use the Pillsbury ones)
- Container of Cream Cheese Frosting
- Box of Yellow Cake Mix
- Butter
- Brown Sugar
- Cinamon
See the recipe card below for the ingredient measurements.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 - Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
Step 2 - Assemble: Evenly distribute the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, spread the melted cream cheese frosting on top, sprinkle over the cake mix, and top with slices of butter. In a bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle on top.

Step 3 - Bake: Bake uncovered on the middle rack for 40-50 minutes, until golden (do not let it get too dark or it will be dry and not gooey). Let it rest for 5-10 minutes, then drizzle on the icing from the cinnamon roll packages.

Storage & Leftovers
Store any leftover cake covered with aluminum tin foil or plastic wrap (once room temperature) in the fridge for up to 1 week. Reheat pieces in the microwave until warm.

The cream cheese just needs to be melted enough so that it's easy to spread/drizzle over the cinnamon rolls. It doesn't need to be too runny - 20 seconds in the microwave is more than enough.
Another option instead of the yellow cake mix is to use cinnamon swirl cake mix or muffin mix, however it's not always as easily accessible for everyone depending on the grocery store so that's why I like to use a common yelllow cake mix and then just add cinnamon sugar. If you're using cinnamon swirl cake mix, you can omit the cinnamon and brown sugar and use the packet that comes with the box cake mix.Â
Avoid overbaking the cake as the cinnamon rolls will become dry.Â
Best served warm.
