Description

This easy Irish soda bread is simple to make with just a few basic ingredients and is super festive for St. Patricks day!


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Flour - 3 Cups (extra for dusting your work surface)
  • Baking Soda - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - 3/4 Teaspoon
  • Buttermilk - 1 and 1/2 cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Preheat the oven to 375° F or 190° C.
  2. Combine: In a medium sized bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Create a well in the middle and pour in the buttermilk.
  3. Mix: Using a spoon, gently mix the ingredients together until the dough is slightly combined.
  4. Knead: Generously flour a surface and roll the dough out onto it. Gently knead the bread a few times, just until it begins to form a ball. *Do not over knead or your bread.
  5. Bake: Gently transfer to a greased baking sheet and cut a  cross or “X” on the top of the bread. Bake for 35-40 minutes. Wait a few minutes before cutting the bread.
